Budget Tip with Britt | Weekdays are the new Saturdays

We all have a budget. Some are less than others, and some are more. Either way we have a magic number in mind that we are striving to stay at or under while having our vision and dreams met. Weddings are not cheap. There is so much more that goes into a wedding that most newly engaged couples forget about or don’t plan for. Bottom line, when you go to the drawing board of creating a budget, you may miss an item or two.

The biggest hurdle you may struggle with when it comes to establishing your budget, is day of the week. Everybody wants a Saturday wedding (or at least mostly everybody) because that’s what society and your mother may expect. Yes, Saturdays are nice because the majority of your guests, family, and bridal party don’t work and everyone will have the next day off! While it’s selfless and ultra kind to accommodate your guests and such, Saturdays are prime, meaning they are the most costly (no matter where you get married).

Here’s a way (or suggestion) to over come the idea and desire to have a Saturday wedding while staying within your budget. First, figure out what the cost difference is for a Saturday and what the savings would be for a Thursday or Friday. Where could you put that extra money? The bar? Your dress? Decor? Figure out what is most important to you and your beau and create a priority list from 1 – 10. If hosting a Saturday event is the most important component, awesome! If having a little extra cushion for that extended hour of Photography, do that! Ask yourself, what will last….a forever photo or a Saturday evening? *side note: there are the same amount of hours in a Thursday that are in a Saturday.

“But the majority of my guests are out of town. There is no way we can’t have it on Saturday.” Oh really? You don’t think your guests will take time off to attend the biggest day your life? Apologies in advance, but if no is the answer then why are they invited? Trying to accommodate everyone is the best way to stress yourself out. Girl, this is YOUR day and if budget is important, then you need to be realistic. The people that want to be there, will be there, regardless of what day you choose. Wouldn’t you take a day or two off to see a family member or dear friend tie the knot? Plus, it’s cheaper for them to fly out on a weekday vs. a Friday or Saturday. It gives them time to get in and get situated without rushing to the wedding, and leaving the very next day. Weekday weddings give your guests the ability to make a mini vacation out it. Who doesn’t want a reason to play hookie from work? Hello!

All in all, the choice is yours. Day of the week plays a huge part in wedding costs. If a Saturday fits within your budget, by all means, dance the night away! If you’re looking to be budget friendly, and still have a killer wedding, don’t let the SAT in front of the “day” make or break your decision! Good company, good food, good music, and your soulmate is all you need!   Written By: Brittany Fitch
